Recently, the first training in a series of three took place in Curaçao, specifically developed for the Central Statistical Offices (CSOs) of Curaçao, Aruba, Sint Maarten and Bonaire. This training, funded and supported by the TWO through the Country Packages, was delivered by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and focused on strengthening statistical knowledge and skills aligned with the specific challenges faced by the countries.

The training covered topics such as data integration, micro-integration, data visualisation and dashboards, as well as the full statistical production process. In addition, attention was given to artificial intelligence and how this technology can support the CSOs in their daily work. A key theme was small-scale statistics, a challenge frequently encountered by the CSOs in the four countries.

Rationale and Collaboration

For the CSOs, it can be difficult to find suitable, practice-oriented training programmes that align with their local context. This training series was set up with the aim of strengthening participants’ foundational knowledge and skills and translating statistical expertise into daily practice.

Next Steps

The training programme consists of three in-person sessions, spread across 2026 and 2027. The second training will take place in October 2026 during the Week of Statistics in Aruba, again focusing on practice-oriented knowledge exchange. A final training session will follow in the first quarter of 2027. In addition, the CSOs may participate in online training courses offered by Statistics Netherlands.

The programme aims to strengthen the statistical knowledge and skills of staff members. It also seeks to make statistical expertise applicable to the specific challenges faced by the countries and to provide space for specialised topics in the field of statistics.
