Interim report on education Sint Maarten
The agreed National Package (measure G1.1) for Sint Maarten states that the education system will be screened. The interim report has now been published. The interim report Sint Maarten Education Review: Obstacle and avenues to improve education contains the first findings and ten recommendations for the education system in Sint Maarten (WHAT could be improved?). The final report will address how the recommendations can be implemented (HOW can it be improved?).
This interim report concludes that the teachers are the strength of the Sint Maarten education system. Their involvement and dedication ensure that they remain committed to providing students with a good education.
Challenges in the education system include the lack of adequate information and indicators about the performance of education; the connection between the different schools, which is not equally good everywhere; as well as the problematic connection to the labor market. The Ministry of ECYS is already working on some of the recommendations.
Stakeholder sessions were held at the beginning of August 2022 where the recommendations were further elaborated. The final report will be delivered in the last quarter of 2022.
